Call me Captain Obvious, but walking is super helpful when it comes to maintaining, even improving your bodily health (to say nothing of its mental-health perks). But here’s the less obvious — and, IMO, best — part: You don’t need to log multiple miles a day to get a serious health benefit. The latest research, published by The Lancet Public Health, found that just 7,000 steps per day can reduce one’s risk of serious health issues, including heart disease, dementia and cancer. (FYI, the average person walks 2,000 steps per mile, so that’s about 3.5 miles per day.)
