Entrecard - Aussie Bloggers Getting Noticed
«
on:
January 24, 2008, 08:24:12 PM »
All,
Over the past week I have noticed that our fellow Australian bloggers are getting noticed as part of the Entrecard community. I have been fortunate enough to have received a new designed Entrecard from Technet SEO that looks a bit more professional that my old black text over my Bird of Paradise leaf. In discussing this with the EC'er that made the offer I mentioned that I mentioned his article on the forums. He was very thankful to know how we all discovered his site. He was at a loss as to why he got a spike from here, heh.
I have also just been to
Chain Drop
and notice that Alan has given recognition to Jaynes'
Our Great Soutern Land
blog. Knowing Alan from Blog Catalog he will have definitely meant every word he wrote when he tagged Jayne for the inaugural Chain Drop meme. Well done Jayne :-)

Entrecard is not to bad at gaining traffic, But its not everything.
First you need to place the widget where it shows as soon as your page loads, then you need to click about 100 peoples entrecards for the first few days, Then a bunch of people will advertise on your site, Driving your price higher.
Once it is high and you have gained a fair few credits, try and advertise on a big site, Once you get noticed there a lot of people will advertise on your site

It is a great way to get people in the front door, the content keeps them and inspires the participation.

Ben - That did help, it is more about signing up and adding the widget type stuff that I'm feeling clueless on. I'll add it to my todo list for this week though.

It was actually really quick to sign up - creating the card took a little bit longer but that was because I was fussy.
I put a link to sephy's post and to Ben's post about entrecard which between them tell you everything you need to know in a post on my blog this week -

Just looking at this now. What if you have multiple blogs? How do you choose which one? Decisions, decisions...

I think you can put the widget on more than one site, but I'm not sure on that.

As long as you have enough email addresses, you can create entrecard accounts for each one individually. I currently have 2. I just did 1 at a time though. Started with what I consider my "main" blog and got that up and running with entrecard. Then signed up my next blog with a different email address. Only problem is, you have to log in and log out all the time for each different one. And of course, if you want to be active, it takes all the more time to deal with more than 1 entrecard.

I am sure these forums have helped get us Aussies get noticed on Entrecard - since we added our Entrecard addresses and Andrew posted the list on his blog. It is easier to find each other so we are concentrating our efforts more on supporting each other.
I am not sure if there will be any huge long term gain but for my part I am getting some people returning regularly to my blog which must be good. Anyway the novelty of it has not yet worn off for me and I am enjoying it. Much more fun than other link exchange type program.
Having the ability to choose whose site you appear on and who appears on your site does not bother me as much as advertising all and sundry. I am happy for my readers to visit the sites I approve because they are more likely to offer something of interests and I feel that I am supporting other bloggers - it suits my blogging ethics more than similar advertising programs I suppose.

I have just added entrecard and am being swamped by ads. I haven't got enough points to advertise somewhere else yet. I love it. I removed the awful BlogRush.

I have got into it, I find that using RSS in Thunderbird to visit everyone that visits me has helped repeat visits a lot.
And I must admit I am noticing quite a bit of additional traffic that is staying between 2 to 10 min on my blog.

Excellent to see other Aussies having success. At the moment for me I have dropped dropping simply due to the dramas of MD Web Hosting who have basically killed all my sites for the past week. I am trying to get all of them moved so I can give MD the bird real soon now. Once thats done expect to see a big green thumb appearing a lot on your sites once more

I've heard of so many people affected by this, including some of my own VA team. I have hosting available that has Fantastico and Cpanel if that's of interest at all? Been using the same service for around 7 years now and very rarely have problems, the guys are responsive and are in WA.

Thanks for the offer but I have jumped already to a host offering unlimited domains and cPanel and Fantastico. In fact I applied about 5 hours ago and already had to make use of support. However, unlike MD the support was instantaneous!

Which host are you using? I have the same features with my host, Hostgator, and I love their online chat support.
