Bonfires In My Head

WWW
« on: October 27, 2008, 02:16:20 pm »

Once upon a time a long time ago, I wanted to watch a youtube but for some reason you had to be a registered you tube member to watch it. So I registered, and asked it to keep me logged in just because I can't be bothered remembering the password etc.

A week or so ago, Barack Obama was out visiting people in Ohio and there was a spider on him. There's a youtube video, and I watched it after clicking on a link.

After that, every time I logged in it would "recommend" spider videos for me. Enormous camel sand spiders, and tarantulas, and really big evil scary looking spiders. It made my skin crawl. I couldn't be bothered trying to find any way to undo it, so I just logged out. And I won't log back in. rwink

Has this ever happened to anyone else? Do you even bother to be a registered member of youtube?

(let us not get into the actual spider on my laptop incident!!)

After that spider put your neck out Snos I'm not surprised you don't wanna see more rsmiley

I occasionally upload stuff so I have an account, and I'm also lazy so it's set to keep me logged in. I also use the "favourite" button lots so I can find things I like again.

Their sign up and forgotten password stuff is diabolical. I have a friend who is colour blind and the CAPTCHA thingy took him 12 goes (I would have given up by then). I find it hard enough with no visual impairments. When I originally signed up "goatlady" was taken so i picked goatladykay and then when I went to retrieve my password ages later, I kept typing in goatlady cos it wouldn't let me put in an email address instead and it kept sending it to whoever goatlady is and I thought it wasn't working at all until I twigged. Incredibly frustrating.

I'm a member and I have wasted countless hours of my life watching one video only to find myself clicking on every related video. Damn that related video bar!

As for their recommendation system, simply view some other videos on the site and it should change the recommendation algorithm for your account. I upload videos taken from my easyshare camera all the time to youtube.

Yep, same thing happens with me and video porn sites.

These days the only recommendations I get include vikings, nuns and gladiators. I don't understand   xlaugh

I don't think my hubby is a member as he's never uploaded any clips but he spends hours and hours and hours at youtube. Watching mountain biking rides, stupid things that other people do and something called Fail Blog I think.

The YouTube Recommendations thing proceeds very funny results at time. At one stage I found if I went to YouTube in the morning there would be 2Girls1Cup parody videos (why, I'll never know - not something I watch lol) and at night there was a much more interesting selection of Jazz music... Miles Davis, Chet Baker, and the like.

I actually ended up just taking it down from my page. The homepage is now mostly-customizable.
