How do I put You Tube into the post?
It took me ages to work it out on my old blog but this one doesn't work the same way.

Click the code tab in the editor and paste in the embed code.

There are also some plugins I believe that make it even easier. On my non-wordpress system for example I wrote a plugin so it's just a matter of putting youtube:xxxxxxxx in the post someplace - where xxxxxxxxx is the youtube id.  Embed code is yucky and Google's doesn't even validate. I wanted to get it right and only do it once. Check the plugin repository for something similar...

But the code tab lets you do it right now.

I'm betting that you have the YouTube brackets plugin installed already, so I'll give you the instructions for that :wink2:

All you need to do is this -

1. Copy the address of the YouTube video you want to link to (making sure that it is just the youtube.com/watch?v={numbers, etc} and nothing after it - no hashes, &feature=related, etc).
2. While writing your post, type in the following - [youtube=
3. Then, paste the address of the video
4. Type ]
5. Finish your post.

For example, if I wanted to put in a video from the West Wing, I would put the following into my post -

Code:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptht4swOcxQ]

That's it! One word of warning, make sure that the video is allowed to be embedded - I thought that it could show you embedded videos, but apparently that doesn't work anymore.

Hope this helps! :001_smile:

Yes, I believe I did activate the plugin for youtube brackets in your blog Tiggy, so Sephy's answer should work. rwink

If they're your own mp3 files, you can just attach them - which lets your audience use whatever player is best for them. Now if it's somebody else's music you want to play on your weblog page, I would recommend the XSPF player. You can create a simple playlist or import one from elsewhere.

Be aware that MP3's can be large and therefore can chew up bandwidth. rsad

I've never got into putting music on my blog, so I am not sure what is out there. Youtube has always been the easiest option when the song I have wanted is there - if people don't want to watch it they can still listen.

Music on blogs is a difficult one because most people hate it when music plays automatically so you want to be certain people have to press play before music starts. rwink

Just because lots of people do it wrong isn't a reason to abandon hope. Music is quite nice on a site when done correctly. I've got it on mine and have never had an issue or complaint.

Yup.  There are times when putting a snippet of music within a post is something I'd like to do.  No automatic play though.  File size, however, is an issue.

This (file size) is why I made a distinction earlier about hosting your own work or somebody else's. I'm hosting several playlists, but I only have a handful of my own files online. The rest of the music is being stored on other MP3 sites and streamed through the XSPF player. This also minimizes the legal issues. If somebody streams a protected song, in fact it never touches my server. The only thing on my server is the URL. But most of my listeners are into indie music anyway so I haven't yet had to block a playlist.

I agree about autoplay. If this could be disabled on the browser I would do it in a heartbeat.

Try the Firefox extension Stop Auto Play - not used it myself but I came across it while looking through extensions recently - I already have so many extensions.

The YouTube brackets plugin is certainly the easiest way to embed a video, the problem is that it doesn't embed in your feed.

I wrote How to Add a YouTube Video to a WordPress Blog, that shows how you can make the video look prettier, and it will embed in the feed for people using Google Reader (though not in Bloglines and perhaps others).

In Blogger it is easy. I use the Firefox extension to stop flash automatically playing. I really hate autoplay of music or videos. Generally the YouTube site will let you know whether you can embed.

Tiggy

Step 1 - Turn OFF the visual editor.

Go to users and your profile and make sure it is NOT ticked.

Then copy and paste the embed code in.

I was going to log in and have a look but my password isn't working now. rcry I sent you an email Tiggy.

Sephy's way should work for you if the plugin is still activated. It is dead simple but also easy to mess it up if you put the wrong link in.

They need to look like this -

Code:
[youtube=http://youtube.com/watch?v=qaGS3Uts704]

You can't have the # on the end, or &feature=related on the end. If you do they won't work. You need the exact url of the video.

And you can't have - &rel=1 - which was the problem in this case.

I've taken that off, and all is working now. I saved it - it is still in drafts. rsmiley

Ask Sephyroth how many times I sent him a skype message that said - "How do I do those you tube tags again?" or "Why didn't that you tube one work, I'm sure I got the code right"

rsmiley And I was doing the song of the day, so I was getting plenty of practice!

We learn by doing.  rcool rtongue

I see you've already got this sorted out but I figured I'd add in my  two cents worth  rgrin

I use Vipers Video Quick Tags - allows you to quickly add in YouTube or Google Videos etc basically does it the same way but you don't need to worry about the brackets etc - just grab the url and paste it in.

Tiggy

Step 1 - Turn OFF the visual editor.

Go to users and your profile and make sure it is NOT ticked.

Then copy and paste the embed code in.

Remember though if you paste your embed code in that way - if you ever go back and edit that particular post - make sure you turn the visual editor off again rsmiley

I don't embed Youtube vids very often but when I do in my Wordpress blog I do it the way that Meg described. For good measure I add a link to it also. I find then, that I always write and edit my blog posts without the visual editor turned on, but I'm very familiar with HTML so this doesn't bother me too much.
