Um, yeah, I am a Firefox fan too - I can recommend a few add-ons though.
Adblock Plus
is great, as is
FasterFox.
I also use
All-in-One Sidebar
to show my listing of bookmarks without chopping too much off the top and bottom of the viewing area - but bear in mind that it won't make much difference on a small screen.
How do you find/get add-ons for firefox?
Top menu bar Tools > Addons

Go to "Tools" then "Addons" in the drop down list. It will pop up the screen where you can manage your addons. In the bottom right of the pop up there is a link that says "Get Extensions".

Well, yeah, that too.
In my defense, if you want to manage your addons (activate / deactivate / update / delete) now you'll know where to go to do it.

Tools, options, network, cache - clear now.
Should this be done regularly? What is a good amount to have (ie how many megabytes)?

Thanks Meg. Just for my future reference (ie when I forget and come back here to check), it's
Tools, options, advanced, network, cache - clear now
I didn't even know it HAD a cache (yeah, I know nothing
) but I'm trying to activate the tiny MCE editor on my new blog and it tells me it won't show up unless I clear my browser cache in firefox.

I use the addon
Cache Status
for this.
It just adds a little icon to your navbar so that you can clear it with 1 right click, which is good for me when doing design stuff.

Select Tools from the menu, then Add ons. There's a Get extensions link in this box. You'll be there for hours as there are so many. Otherwise go straight to the
Mozilla website
. The aforementioned way is also how you'll upgrade your addons later on.

I sooo miss the middle wheel click thing to open in a new tab... I've recently got a mighty mouse (apple). I've tried to figure out how I can change it so I can do it again, but can't see any options for that specifically. Anyone else use a Mighty Mouse?
Btw, Flock is another great browser. It's built on firefox, and a lot of people now say it's a lot better (something about using less memory or something? I don't get all the technical stuff).

Hi Simone,
I don't use a Mighty Mouse on my MacBook Pro. As cool as they are, the middle click wheel is just too useful, so I'm still using the no-name one I bought in KMart a couple of years ago for $20.
Best regards, Andrew

yeahh, I'm considering switching back too, just for that reason!!...I just bought a second hand (practically new) keyboard and mighty mouse from a friend, but I might just sell the mighty mouse again to someone else!
Thanks Andrew

I simply love Firefox - the best bit is that you chose from a massive amount of add-ons how you want it to work and look. My one's like a mini control centre I have so many little useful add-ons.
A few examples from reading this thread.
The add-on "
Tab Mix Plus
" is awesome. It restores all tabs if FF crashes and you have to restart. Each tab gets a little X to close it. You can undo a closed tab, and there's a little button to open up a new tab.
Another simple add-on: "
Text Size Toolbar
" - allows you to place three icons on your toolbar - increase, decrease and normal. A good time-saver.
There's just sooo much more I can add, but wouldn't want to bore you...
Cheers,
Martin

Flock is great although I cannot find all of my favorite Firefox extensions for Flock as yet. It has a quick working inbuilt photo uploader for Flickr etc, and a social networking sidebar feature that lets you keep up with or interact with Flickr, YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.
One of my all time favorite extensions for Firefox is the Web Developer Toolbar - it has all sorts of handy functions for beginners to advanced web designers. Great for playing with your blog template styling.

FIREFOX ROX!!!!!!
Also... here's a really good one for you all using Firefox...
www.foxmarks.com
It remembers your bookmarks as you go from computer to computer.... So I could go to an internet cafe in Zimbabwe, open a Firefox browser... then hey presto... all my bookmarks are syncronized... Yay.

Hi Bettina
You can change the size of text quite easily in FireFox. If you click on "View" in the menu options, you should see the option "Text Size". Try increasing it there.
errr depends on the mouse config. Its not a universal rule, But CTRL/CMD + Click = new tab

I find one of the most useful add ons to be the
tab mix plus
...so many options! I'm one to have lots of tabs open, so if need a new one when the one I'm currently in doesn't open in a new window I just click and there it is...you can protect them from being accidently closed, all sorts of things....

I use Firefox almost exclusively for web development, but find one real problem with it.
Memory leaks.
When using it for a day or two, and not restarting my machines, it starts eating up an inordinate amount of memory. Just remember to restart it now and again.
For developers out there, a fantastic plug in is 'Firebug'. You can edit styles and HTML of the rendered page in the browser in real time to test changes, plus other cool stuff.
I also have Google Toolbar for Firefox, and 'Net Usage Item' which shows me my cable usage for the month. Very nifty.

I only discovered Firebug about a month ago. It is a rockstar plugin!. I'm working on a site right now and it would have been agonising to do without it.
I think it would be handy for those guys just learning to edit their stylesheets too. No more css detective skills needed. One click of inspect and you can see everything that is being inherited from where.
I love love love it.

Add me to the list of folks who also swear by Firebug!
I was introduced to it by Snoskred, who posted about a great tutorial in
this thread
When I downloaded it and played around with it for a little while, my only question was why hadn't I heard about it sooner! :wink2:
My favourite feature by far is the little trick when you're in inspect mode (not edit) and you press up and down - that will actually change the values of the parameter you're changing in the CSS; not only that, if you're inserting a new line to the stylesheet, it will actually give you the different allowed values for CSS; pretty sweet! :001_smile:
