Bonfires In My Head

WWW
« on: January 05, 2008, 04:06:33 pm »

What blog post do you think is your best ever?

It could be for many reasons -

- most views
- best writing
- turned out exactly how you wanted it to when you thought of the post in your head
- most comments
- most linked to by others

I'll answer this one later but I thought I'd like to see some links from others - it may be a post I missed out on reading! rwink

(feel free to link to more than one!)  rgrin

Snos,

without a doubt (at least in numbers terms) it was Blogging is like masturbation because… - it got 1600+ hits in one 24 hour period, and nearly 2000 since (thanks StumbleUpon, despite your categorisation sins) rsmiley

I would like every post to have this many readers. That would please me rsmiley

I've got hundreds that are more popular and written better, but I really enjoy this one, from New Years Eve 2001-2002 as I crossed the California border.

There's another great one about a discrepancy in the reported size of the US military, but I'm still waiting to see if an investigative journalist will pick it up (I've contacted a few) - it's a potentially explosive story. The most popular ever is a function to convert relative to absolute URLs in PHP.

Based on the WordPress popularity contest plugin, this is my most popular post of all time... says a lot about my audience I guess...

he he he.  That was fabulous!

We went to a trivia night with my friends parents.  I was the youngest on the table (by the end of the night On.The.Table) the oldest was 85.

We called our team Camel Toe and chanted it all night.  Wish Lindsay was there.  She would have added some class to the event  rwink

My most recent favourite was when I dressed up as Hermione Granger (or did I rwink?) for HP#7 launch

Most viewed ever is this one, about my past eating disorder:

I like this idea!

All time best, Why StumbleUpon is better than Digg to build your Blog Traffic more than 20,000 visits over few months and 40+ comments; from Stumble Upon

Recently, 100 ways to keep yourself happy more than 5,000 visits over 7 days; from Stumble Upon

I discovered that if a top stumbler submits your post, you will get a massive traffic

I have stumbled all of the above. rwink Just so you know.

Now, my most viewed post of all time has to be -

Snoskred made 5 MILLION DOLLARS online this year!

The one that turned out exactly as I saw it in my head -

Plane Safety - a must read for all.
(just quietly I love the what not to wear in the event of a plane crash one that accompanies this, too)

Most comments -

Most Environmentally Friendly and my personal favourite for a long list of reasons I wont go into -

Along the same lines as Swollen pickles´camel toe posts  my most (unintentionally) popular post is this one

Kranky Bimbos

but somehow I don´t think that what´s people were looking for in their search. Not much repeat traffic there.  rwink

Before all the bimbo seekers kept finding their way to my site, my most popular post was

Hello World!

I blogged about something controversial back in September and it went totally crazy. In so many ways I wish I hadn't. I had over 100 comments (many I had to delete).

http://blogpond.com.au/2007/09/14/maddison-gabriel-12-year-old-model/

Second most was writing about Paul Potts - right place at the right time (67 comments)

http://blogpond.com.au/2007/06/12/a-mobile-phone-salesman-called-paul-potts/

Third was a recycled email - go figure, that seemed to appeal to Stumblers

http://blogpond.com.au/2007/07/31/a-trip-down-memory-lane/

Ironic that not one of the posts required any real effort and were just about random things.

My most popular post based on commenting alone is
http://likedancingaboutarchitecture.wordpress.com/2007/12/31/things-i-want-to-do-in-2008/
This is because many women lined up to cyber slap me because I have never had a pap smear.

My most popular post based on views is
http://likedancingaboutarchitecture.wordpress.com/2007/12/22/time-travelling-lesbian/
because it was on Digg.

The post most therapeutic for me to write was

I am proud of this one, though it was during my comeback to blogging after months of no direction or interest.

Water Conservation for the Garden

Also my recap post on my early experiences gardening is another favourite.  Again before I was too bothered generating traffic.

Hmm.  My most viewed is because of StumbleUpon.  I kind of think that it's a nothing little post, but a couple of stumblers I don't know gave it the thumbs up so I guess people can relate.

Most viewed: Disorderly conduct…

Then there is the one I got a Perfect Post Award for that connected me with a lot of the bloggers I now consider friends.  Note: This post is about child sexual abuse.  Do not read it if it will upset you.

Perfect Post: Imagine if...

My most commented doesn't have a very impressive number of comments.  rwink  Most of you get more comments than it has every day.

Most Commented: Checkmate…

And just my personal favorite, on the basis that it needed to be written and it feels complete...

Favourite: On fatherhood…

Mmmmmm my favourite post is Eating Locally - I have a bunch of other ones that I probably like even more but this is the one that always comes to mind.

Actually my first and only addition to youtube probably would make my list too: Aquaman Mac Ad

I also did a summary and re-captioned the first Aquaman comic here (you can use the link above it to go to the second page).

I just want to clarify that I'm not obsessed with Aquaman.

I have just come off the phone after making an appointment for this Thursday to have my first ever pap smear.
I'm 22 years old and I've been putting it off for four years. Your post and the comments you received were that kick in the ass I needed to make an appointment, so THANK YOU.

Now for my favourite blog posts:

Due to Stumble Upon the post that brings in the most traffic is My Brother, Gay Porn Distributer (It's SFW)

Two posts I'm really proud of because they got my point across and had lovely receptions from readers were Christmas (not equal to) My Birthday and Raising a Paw Against Puppies and Kittens as Christmas Presents

I guess there are a lot I like but I'm always striving to make them BETTER!  rgrin It's been fun going through and reading everyone's posts though - it's a great place to start if I've never stumbled across your blog before!

I've taken a while to answer this because I needed to think about it.

My personal favourite is How Did This Happen?  It talks about the nervous breakdown I had so I guess it's the most "personal" post I've written.  It's part of a series I wrote that I need to go back and fix all the links in as they currently point back to my old blogger blog.

My most viewed post was Candy Cane Bathsalts.  I had 1080 visits that day - about 10 times my usual number!!!!  It was stumbled and then restumbled a few times.  They ended up being very popular gifts too!   rsmiley

Seems there's been a flurry of recent interest in an article I wrote a couple years ago on how to build an atomic bomb. Canadians this time. Who would've thought? I'll be polite and not post the link here. For those that are insatiably curious, the word 'collimators' might turn out to be useful.
