Guys and Gals,
I came across this article from
TechNet News
on my drops. Thought you all may want a read.
I should also add he drops cards back on you too. Not one to simply horde the credits earned via drops on him.

I haven't used this, was thinking about it and up popped this post in my reader today!
I found it a very interesting reason why not to
unless they are paying you, maybe it won't help your blog?

Hi Suzie,
John Cow's argument is about the echo-chamber effect that happens in this kind of thing, with the top people getting higher up because they are the top people. This is a fair argument and I can certainly see it happening.
If I was paying for points then I would feel weird about allocating several hundred points to advertise on a blog with 22 RSS subscribers.
If I was worried about Entrecard bringing in non-Entrecard traffic, that is - but here is the scary bit - I am not
The truth is that I do not see Entrecard as anything more than a way to promote my blog with other Entrecarders - and in this, it has been a raging success, because there are several people subscribed to these forums now because they came via On Blogging Australia, either through dropping their cards or on blogs that were advertising On Blogging Australia (that they were also possibly only visiting to drop their cards).
Additionally, I know that every Entrecard member has at least one blog, and I blog on blogging, so for me there is no downside.
I think that John Cow is missing the point - but he has given me the idea for an article on why it does work for me
Thanks for the link.
Best regards, Andrew

If people use their heads and use the program properly, this doesn't have to happen. In my opinion, this kind of thing will only bite them in the behind in my opinion. I do agree though that the rapid drop and run does compromise the program.
I think if you overinflate the price of your blog before you become a bit better known, you could run the risk of an empty advertising space and that benefits no-one. I'm working on a slowly, slowly basis and seeing if that works. Naturally you want to bump it up from 2c to a little bit more reasonable price but yeah, once you get small blogs up in the 100s, I wonder whether their advertising rate will slow?
Anyway, I have a few more thoughts on my experiences with entrecard but I'm saving them for my own post later in the week.

Andrew,
I have an idea for the
Aussie Bloggers on Entrecard
page. Can we add a second column that links to the Entrecard page for the blogger. That way we can quickly see if a fellow Aussie blogger has some campaign space quickly and easily. We can then spread the credit love amongst "our fellow Australians".
What do you think?

Hi SK,
sounds like a very good idea - I will get onto it tomorrow (and bug me if it isn't done in the next day or so)
Thanks, Andrew

I have to say, I have noticed that many of the sites dropping their cards are a) completely irrelevant, and b) really bloody crappy. I have a feeling my rejection rate is going to be quite high.
On the other hand I've only been on it for 2 days and I had a great comment from an Entrecard someone who otherwise would not have known I exist. Even just one dropper becoming a reader each week is an excellent conversion rate.
I do think, like Lightening, that there are those who just abuse the easily abused system, but I'm pretty sure as it gathers more steam there will be people who "use the system properly" and the, er, great unwashed?, will be left to play amongst themselves. Because the bloggers who we like and respect, and who we would be happy to advertise on, don't have time to rush around spamming everyone with a widget. Because blogging is a lot of work already.

Hi SK,
I've now added Entrecard homepage URLs for the
Aussie Bloggers on Entrecard
page. Thanks for the suggestion. It is still in a bullet list - I'll stick it in a table when I can.

Hi jomar,
welcome to the
You need to add the Entrecard widget code (available from the "Get Code" tab on the Entrecard site once you're logged in) and add it within a text widget box in WordPress:
1. Go to Dashboard > Presentation > Widgets
2. Increase the number of text widgets by one using the droplist next to "How many text widgets would you like?"
3. Drag the new text widget up into the box representing Sidebar 1.
4. Click on the little lines icon on the new text widget
5. paste the code you copied from Entrecard there
6. Click on Save Changes.
7. look at your blog to ensure that it is up there
8. Go back to Entrecard dashboard and click on the "find widget" icon (it may be "detect widget", can't remember, sorry).
Any problems, please get back to me or one of the other experienced Entrecarders here
PS: let me know when it is working and I'll add you to the Aussie Entrecarders List
Cheers, Andrew

I can see the widget on your site, however within Entrecard the system is displaying "No Widget". I think you need to go to your Entrecard DashBoard and click Find Widget (or words to that effect). Once you do that the traffic will flow
Once again welcome.
