Here's another article for you: http://www.sitepoint.com/blogs/2009/05/25/google-pagerank-obsessions/

key points from the article:
- What you see is not what you get. PageRanks are computed continuously so when you see a PageRank 5 that site could in fact have a PageRank 7 or 2 (Matt Cutts).
- Toolbar PageRank updates do not influence SERPs (Matt Cutts)
- Google lowers manually PageRanks for sites that are selling links (Danny Sullivan)

So according to that article, you're FAR better off obsessing about your incoming links, comments and visitor numbers rsmiley

I don't fixate on pagerank too much (even Alexa).
It's not something I have in my control and seems to fluctuate.

I am trying to build steady visitors to the site.
Trying out various strategies to some effect. rsmiley

Ta Goatlady. But when I see the ranks for some of my sites and blogs and then my newer blogs I ache to have them showing similar (4/10 and low number for Alexa).  Oh well, perhaps I should remove that off the status bar and I could not stop obsessing then.

I check my stats regularly too but at least I know that's more accurate.

Nice info.  Haven't really worried about page rank before and now I know that I don't need to! xwink

For all that my newest two blogs now do have PRs - one has 3/10 and the other 2/10.  The 3/10 has only been alive a couple of months at most but I think the subject matter may have helped - it's about Twitter.

I have no idea what my pagerank is!

But Alexa has dropped 50,000 in the last few weeks.

That hurt.

Kelley, I wouldn't even worry about that. Alexa is just as made up as any other arbitrary ranking system. Your own stats (visits+subs) are the only way to gauge how your blog is doing...

Yeah, I know.  Some of the HUGE bloggers have pathetic Alexa rankings... but the Aussie blog lists are taken from Alexa and Technorati so save me insisting that all my readers install the Alexa toolbar I just have to suck it up...

I know what you mean . .
However if it's out of your control there's not much point worrying about it.

Steady unique traffic flow is probably the way to go. rsmiley
