Any good tutorials/ebooks on monetizing?
«

I have been researching monetizing blogs for some time now but the amount of information out there is just overwhelming. So many people offer paid for advice via ebooks, email or tutorials and lately there more expensive pay per month programs popping up. I can't help but think that the reason these people make most of their money is by selling information on how to make money or by affiliate links to information about making money.
I took the plunge to try out one scheme called Profit Mart and ended up just confirming my own feelings about these 'can't fail' schemes. I can't show you the site that was provided as I cancelled my subscription but basically it allowed you to populate a webpage with ads.
Can anyone reccommend any good comprehensive resources on learning how to monetize, either free or reasonably priced, that are worthwhile and not intended just to make money for the authors of them.

There is a good ebook on selling ebooks by Dave Navarro and Naomi from Ittybizz. If you know about affiliates and writing copy you probably won't learn much.
Nitro Blueprint have good freebies if you sign up for their newsletter. The usual problem of thinking that somehow putting up a video of a powerpoint is somehow more impressive than plain text but you get that. There is some good information - but nothing absolutely new. Caroline Middlebrook has a good newsletter for free. Her site has those damn popups so I've stopped reading it but you can just sign up for the newsletter (she will sell you the newsletters all at once for a fee).
For me it's come down to doing my own stuff. Ads don't work on a blog as low traffic as mine, I can't really find any affiliate products I want to back, and I don't have the money to pay for an advertising campaign.
I hope others can point us in some useful directions.

Thanks Evan - I signed up for Carolines "ebook" newsletters - I will now go and actually read the emails I have been sent. I agree with you about not being able to find affiliate products that I want to back. I would not want to push something that I did not think totally worthwhile. The few that I would, such as some of the premium themes that come with good support, are flogged to death on multitudes of blogs.

Hi Sueblimely,
For what's it's worth my advice to to have you own product and sell that on your own blog and then through reseller networks. Run some Google Adwords for market and headline testing.
I see that one of your links in your signature is about Fragile X Syndrome? Can you write something useful for parents about that?
If I was a parent with a child with what I suspect was fragile X syndrome, I'd be happy to pay $40 or more to get some good info rather than wait 6 months and pay $300 to see a specialist.
I'd see the specialist anyway, but I'd like to get some sort of facts in plain English now, and not feel alone.
I have a son with Asperger's, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. It is a yellow t-shirt and has a number 8 on it.
Here's the secret, for every 1000 Internet users, there is one person who can actually write stuff about things people care about. Be that person.

I write the content for the Fragile X Assoc on a volunteer basis and would not want to take advantage of that to make money myself. There are already books written by the real experts in the field as well as compilations of parental texts so doubt if I would make anything anyway. I agree though - having a product must be the best way to go to make money online.

Sue,
My own not-yet-implemented solution to the moral dilemma you described about your Fragile X writing is that I'm going to compile an ebook from ATMac.org, it'll be made clear that all the information in the book is on the blog - you're paying for the convenience and the fact it's set up to be printed and carried around offline. I'll also offer a pre-printed version with one of the companies that does print on demand spiral-bound manuals with low setup fees.
This way I don't feel that I'm taking advantage of those who can't afford to pay, or ripping anybody off, and for those who *do* want to pay for the convenience that's great for me!
