StumbleUpon is a social bookmarking site. It is a wonderful tool for discovering and sharing great sites, but it can be a bit confusing at first.

A while back I wrote a Beginner's Guide to StumbleUpon which some people have found useful for learning how to use the site and the toolbar.

Also related is 7 ways to use StumbleUpon as a Discovery Tool

I hope you might find them useful.

Have I told you today how much I love you Meg?  rkiss rkiss rkiss

I have managed to add you all as friends, but can't reply to emails, change my profile or edit settings or whathaveyou without getting that error message.  Will continue to play as time permits today.

I was going to start a new thread called Idiots guide to Stumbling?  But I don't need to now cause my Superhero came to the rescue!

Thanks Meg. I was just looking at it a little while ago and getting frustrated as its not very easy to find your way around. I´m going to read your guides now.

The other day, I discovered you can use your keyboard to stumble upon, gives thumbs up and thumbs down etc. Check your SU Toolbar --> Tools menu --> Toolbar Options ---> Shortcuts tab.

By default the keyboard shortcuts are disabled, you can set fav keys for stumbling!

Is anyone having problems with Stumbleupon discovery hanging up?  I use Firefox and when I try to stumble posts on various blogs the window pops up, I fill it out and then it just hangs - it doesn't do anything.  I wait for ages, it disappears and then when I go check my favourites at Stumbleupon, sometimes the new entry is there and sometimes now.  Very frustrating and time consuming.

That does sound frustrating Kathie.  I stumbled a post yesterday and didn't have any trouble.  That was using firefox.

I've had it happen heaps of times and have never been able to work out why. Maybe I should uninstall it and reinstall in the hope it might decide to work properly.

Kathie

Do you have any add ons for FireFox? I was having a lot of trouble with FF crashing, but I removed a couple and so far so good (though not specifically with SU).

Also on your SU toolbar - look in tools, About SU and version & check you have the current one (I'm up to 3.16)...

Thanks, I'll check the version. I use Tag Editor a real lot.  I have a few others that are relatively new but the Stumbleupon problem has been for as long as I can remember.

I got rid of add ons that I don't use - Mr Wong and split screen. I was getting that hanging - as you say, the browser would disappear. Sometimes it would just go blank, other times I would have to ALT-TAB to find it. A major pain and very time consuming. Then it started locking up altogether and I'd have to shut it down.

You could perhaps try disabling the add ons and seeing if that helps?
