Hi all, I've been thinking more and more about life/business coaching and wondered if anyone has been coached. If so, what did you think?
Also does anyone have any recommendations on a good life or business coach?
Thanks.

I did some work with a life coach last year and it was great!  I did find it pretty expensive though.

Yes, I've had a bit of a browse around to see what the costs are. This is why I'm putting the feelers out for who might have used one and what they thought.

I do coaching in my offline business, just make sure you ask them about what experience they have in running a business themselves, if they have no 'real world' experience of running businesses then I'd look elsewhere. anyone can do a coaching course but business coaching is a specialised area, and coaching is often overpriced.

I had a life coach in Boston several years back (in the 90s).  She offered a free initial session, so when she wanted me to call her ISD I taught her about VOIP, we tested a few different ones and set her up on the one she liked (this was pre-skype, and that service has since shut down).  Since I was helping with her tech issues I got coaching free, but it did mean the 'sessions' were a bit diluted with her issues as well as mine.

I think having the external point of view is a great idea, but I agree that it can be a bit expensive.  If you're looking from the personal development point of view, there are other options online and offline you can investigate first.  If you're objective is to boost your success, and you've got a business running, it's a good way to boost it (so long as you vet your selection carefully), but if you're still setting something up and living off limited means you might want to look at getting together a mastermind group or something similar as an alternative.  I belong to one of those, it's fantastic for us helping each other chase our dreams and goals.

A mastermind group sounds interesting. I need to set some time aside to investigate this, and more, further.

Thanks.

I'm a member of what could loosely be called a mastermind group (although we aren't rocket scientists). We meet every 2 weeks for breakfast. There's only 3 members, but that's all it takes.

Each meeting we talk about what we need to do next in our businesses, and report on progress from the last meeting. Pretty simple stuff, but very powerful. An example might be:

By next meeting I will have drafted a direct mail letter and identified 100 businesses to whom I can sent it. The evidence I will bring to the meeting is the draft letter and a printout of my mailing list.

The key requirements are action and evidence.  Our group motto is "Put Up or Shut Up".

It works for us.
