Hey peeps,

I'm moving blog hosts. I've got WP 2.6.2 setup on my new host, and I'm trying to export my posts from 2.3.3 (yes I know, I'm out of date and BAD).

It worked ok, except I'm missing the last 10 or 15 posts. So I checked the file and at the very end it seems PHP is timing out "Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded"

Does anyone know if there's a way to specify a longer time out for this script, or any other way to do the export? I can't just import the database cos it's so old. I guess I could upgrade the old site to 2.6.2 and then import the db but that seems like a lot of work rsmiley

I think Leechbabe was having a similar problem which they resolved here

http://www.aussiebloggers.com.au/forum/index.php/topic,3098.msg37870/topicseen.html#new

"My BIL updated his PHP INI file to allow 8MB upload to the server and now we are moving.  Files are transferring across as I type."

Not sure if it is exactly the same issue, but hopefully it might help.

I preface my remarks by stating that I am not an expert in PHP databases at all, just your typical punter rwink

However, just a thought as to how to do the importing -

What about importing the old database and then running the upgrade script as if you were upgrading the new blog?

Thanks for your replies, guys. Here's how I got around it in the end: I used the export file that had timed out to import most of my entries (all the old ones) onto the new server, then I deleted the whole of 2004 from my live blog and exported again. This time, with a few less entries, the script didn't time out, and I was able to import the newer entries too.

Was a real pain because I wasn't able to browse my database at all (a different problem), but at least I managed to get all the posts etc. I'm just double checking a few things and then I can move my domain to the new server - woo-hoo!

I suspect import might be broken in 2.5+

I imported a blog for a moderator here recently to 2.6.1 and it kept freezing up. Then one time it seemed to have worked, but it turned out that a lot of posts were missing. rcry

You know, I love playing around for things like this myself but I don't know I'd be courageous enough to do it for someone else.   xsmiley  Bravo Snos for having the confidence to do that.

I might be a bit late to this thread, but the magic incantation

Code:
set_time_limit(0);

at the top of the relevant script - will disable those pesky timeouts.
