Michael C Hall is nominated in Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series - Yay! The show also picked up a few other noms as well as Outstanding Drama Series -
Outstanding Art Direction For A Single-camera Series
Outstanding Cinematography For A One Hour Series
Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series
The sound is amazing - I've been watching the show with my headset on and it is really crisp and brilliant.

Yay I retrieved my Dexter Season One box set from my Mother's vice like grip this evening.
There's a website that I could give you the address of but I won't because the site itself does contain some spoilers. However it has a quotes from Michael C Hall page, and here's one I love where he is talking about Dexter.
"He has a compulsion that he cannot quite deny, but I think he's admirable in that he has made lemonade from a pretty substantial lemon.
Everyone has skeletons in their closet but his closet is definitely a walk-in one

Just a reminder - it is Dexter day again.
And last week I change the thread name to say 9:50, now it is showing as 9:40 on yourtv.com.au - so make sure to tune in early. I modified the first post again to show this weeks time.

The TV guide in the Sunday paper says 9.50 and Channel 10 on Foxtel says 9.50 but I have changed to Ch 10 now just in case. Can't miss a second of it

:27: Just checking in with my hands over my eyes and my fingers in my ears!
Would you believe I still haven't watched the first two episodes?!?!?!?
My husband really wants to watch the show as well and I would love to share it with him, we don't watch a lot of tv together so it will be good to get into something we can both enjoy. But what with my parents staying and my husband taking time off work to work on the house, well we haven't had a chance to sit down and watch.
So instead I wait and try really hard not to read this thread or any spoilers! Hopefully the week after this we can sit down and have a mini Dexter marathon!

Favourite Scene
- When Dexter and the nurse were fighting - that wig sure wasn't a cheap one or else it would have fallen off - it had a lot of bounce in it too!
Others I liked
- When Dexter gives Deb the cactus. Aww.
When Dexter met his reptilian friend - if you look very closely, after he falls into the mud and gets back up then runs into the tree and swears, he spits. Did he get a mouthful of mud? (he actually spits a second time in this episode, did anyone spot it?)
Dexter pulling the splinter out for Astor.
Favourite Quote
- Angel - "What do you think he is trying to tell us?"
Dexter - "That hockey is a violent sport"
Others I liked -
Dexter - "There's something about standing in a big cool hall I find very relaxing".
Dexter - "Everyone moves to Miami to die, which means we have more junk than any other city in America"
Deb "Thanks for stopping by"
Notes -
HATE those sunglasses on Dexter - they don't suit him at all!
LOVE that scene when Dexter goes out onto his balcony with popcorn and the blue light is dancing on his face - sometimes the camera work and lighting on this show is so incredible.
I love how this is an episode of firsts to tie in with the popping cherry theme - Deb's first homicide case, looking back at Dexter's first kill, the first time Dexter tries to get in between a murderer and a victim, and really the first time we see Dexter showing fear when he has the run in with the large creature.

I think I saw him spit when he met the reptile but didn't see the second one.
I like in the scene with the nurse when he pulls the cord on the hood tight so that its over his eyes, how on earth can he see what he is doing.
I thought that it was interesting that he was almost "human" when he met the reptile and got scared. That's not the Dexter we normally see.

Wahey, it is Dexter day again..
I'm giving you a little bit of warning about something that happens in tonights show. At the end of this week's episode, there is a fade to black. You might think that is the end, but keep listening.
I LOVE it.
classic!

Episode 4 - Let's Give The Boy A Hand
Favourite Scene - The ending, "I'm not the monster he wants me to be - so I'm neither man nor beast. I'm something new entirely, with my own set of rules. I'm Dexter" when Dexter blows out the burning polaroid, the screen fades to black, and then you hear Dexter say "
Boo
". This never fails to send chills down my spine, yet at the same time it delights me greatly. Beautiful stuff.
Others I liked -
When LaGuerta finds out she screwed up re the manhunt.
I love the scene with Rita and the neighbour where the neighbour tells her she is funny, and then Rita stands there looking at the dog afterwards. You can almost see the cogs ticking in there - she's hatching a plan.
The storyline with Angel and the gifts for Nina his wife, and the interplay between Dexter and Angel when Angel keeps showing Dexter the gifts.. funny stuff..
Favourite Quote - Dexter - "Everyone hides who they are some of the time"
Others I liked -
"I find people around me are all making some kind of connection like friendship or romance but human bonds always lead to messy complications, commitment, sharing, driving people to the airport."
Dexter - "Interesting hand job"
Angel - "Now that's funny"
Dexter - "It is?"
Angel - "So, Laguerta screwed the pooch on this one, huh?
neighbour - "Walter's an outside dog"
Dexter - "Hey, you put Walter inside, Walter's an inside dog"
neighbour - "He doesn't like being inside"
Dexter - "
Did he tell you that
?"
neighbour gives Dexter the death stare.
Doakes - "Nobody paying you to stand around and goddamn stare"
Doakes - "What's the message"
Dexter - Not sure"
Doakes - "Whos' he sending it to?"
Dexter - "I can't tell you that either"
Doakes - "What (Oops I swore)ing good are you?"
Dexter - "No (Oops I swore)ing good at all apparently."
Dexter - "The ice truck killer is keeping him alive to perform amputations".
Doakes - "Leave that woman alone with her candles and kumbaya, hmm?"
Dexter - "That was.. unexpected."
Rita - "Yeah, for me too"
Dexter "I have no problem with unexpected"
Great ep, the next two weeks are out of control, too..
and then we get to Episode 8 - the famous episode 8

I agree, I really wish Rove would hurry up and get off. I moved house about a year ago and can't get cable TV at our new place. I'm still suffering withdrawls, and I'm discovering Dexter for the first time. It's become my new 'must see' show (Underbelly was my last). It's such an unusual idea and so different from the run of the mill stuff that usually gets churned out; it really is refreshing.
I'm still trying to work Dexter out; here is a psychopath who kills only bad people and is very decent to everyone else. You don't really feel sorry for his victims; they're the ones who would normally have beaten the system. As fascinating as Dexter is himself, the sub plots really list it for me. The tensions between Dexter's sister and LaGuerta, Angel's private life and his worrying about the anniversary present (quite touching), the trials of the black cop (forget his name) and the flashbacks to Dexter's relationship with his step father all make it an especially rich tapestry.
I was warned I'd find this show confronting, but so far I've found it to be pure entertainment depite the disturbing content. I can't wait for the next one; I love Sunday nights!

Episode 5 - Love American Style
Favourite Scene -
OOH THE EYEBALL!
Others I liked -
When Deb talks to a sleeping Tony Tucci, aww how sweet even though she swears.
Where Deb is flirting with the prosthetics guy, cute!
Dexter panicking when he thinks Angel is looking into his air conditioner.
The whole "La Passione" thing.
Deb's excitement when they have a partial print.
I love the candle train Dexter leaves, that's so funny - and a great setup for his having to deal with the wife as well.
Favourite Quote -
Doakes - "Stop grinning like a f**kin' psycho and get back to work"
Others I liked -
Deb (on phone to nurse) - "Yeah I did call an hour ago, but there's a killer out there that is into whores and security guards, but I bet nurses are next"
Dexter - "She senses I'm not a shoulder, bad sign, she's catching on"
Harry - "Dexter women are different from men."
Dexter - "We've had this talk, Dad."
Dexter - "Somehow it is reassuring to know I'm not the only one pretending to be normal"
Masuka - "I found hair on this one that doesn't belong to Tucci. Rat hair. I probably picked up a parasite"
Doakes - "Don't test me, Masuka!"
Masuka - "These rat bastards were repeat customers"
Dexter - "Be prepared - it's my motto. The boy scouts and I have that in common. Of course, there's no merit badge for tonight's outing."
Notes -
What is with the rooster theme in Harry's kitchen? There's rooster magnets, a rooster ceramic thing.. is this some kind of inside joke with the crew?
Love that music that plays while Dexter is on the boat looking for proof. Drums
and are those pan pipes or something?
Nice handbag the wife had - wonder what Dexter does with that stuff?
The expressions on Dexter's face when he is asking them questions. Classic!
I hope Michael C Hall doesn't get seasick - that boat was rocking about a lot at the end there!
The pace of episodes starts to pick up from here on in ya'all, better tighten your seatbelts.

We are finally up-to-date and I am thrilled to report that my husband loves the show as much as I do! Yay! We have watched back to back episodes the last couple of nights and have just finished last nights episode. How freaky is the eyeball, we can't stop debating over who it might be?!?

I don't think they said why Dexter won't be on next Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised if it's something to do with the olympics.
Maybe I can rent Dexter on DVD to allay my withdrawls.
Is it just me or was that band at the end of Rove really awful? It seemed to go on forever.

Just a heads up that Dexter *is* back on tomorrow night - Sunday the 17th August. Remember last time we finished with the eyeball..
It happens to be an episode which contains one of my favourite scenes ever, so make sure to tune in - apparently it is on at 9:40 but as we know Rove likes to run late..

Episode 6 - Return To Sender
(this is gonna be a long one - a lot going on this week and some great quotes plus a few notes from the commentary track on the DVD with Jennifer Carpenter, Erik King, David Zayaz and Lauren Velez)
Favourite Scene -
Dexter's dream - I especially love the start of it, where the rain turns to blood. But the Deb as Dexter part is also fantastic. You begin to see the true brilliance of Jennifer Carpenter's acting here, and it will become clearer as the next six episodes are shown. Her face during the dream sequence, the expressions, incredible!
Other scenes I liked -
How sweet that Dexter comes over to take care of the dead goldfish.
The zoom in when Dexter asks dispatch "What's the location"
Masuka's huge grin when he sees Dexter.
LaGuerta is so cute with that kid.
When Dexter gets in the trunk to see what the kid saw. Love the kicking the hubcap afterwards.
When Deb is at the Doakes dinner table, she picks up her dishes. On the commentary track, she mentions that she dropped them on the actress sitting next to her. You can hear the girls all laugh, and you can hear Deb apologise.
We get a bit of Rita's past story - good scenes there. I like how Dexter tells Rita that she's stronger now.
LaGuerta is back in the Gold Suit. Purty!
The kid with the pastries.. damn now I'm hungry! I love how they don't speak English for a substantial part of that scene yet I think it is easy to tell what is going on.
Deb is clearly not an obsessive compulsive hand washer judging by the scene with LaGuerta in the bathroom.
Poor Astor with the bed wetting and not wanting to have her party
Her Dad must be an eveil person!
Dexter really loves the tools of his work. Did you see how he held, almost *caressed* that saw/drilly thing before throwing it overboard?
How cool is the scene where Rita does stand up to Paul? Is it possible that Dexter has changed her?
I love how they draw out the sketch part. And the look on Dexter's face - first the shock, then the smile. Beautiful.
Favourite Quote -
Dexter - "I don't have bad dreams, When I sleep all of me sleeps. Nothing ever goes bump in Dexter's night. I've never felt a moment of remorse, doubt, regret. Whats happening to me?"
Other quotes I liked -
Dexter - "Yet another I've sent to a watery grave - well not quite"
Doakes - "This tin can smells like ass, Morgan"
Masuka - "What's up with you today, you're throwing off my chi"
Dexter - "You're not Chinese"
Dexter - "The noose is tightening"
Dexter - "You ok, you got a whole brow thing going on" (and he totally does!)
Dexter - "My neat little world of lies is crumbling all around me, and I can't tell a soul, especially Deb"
Dexter - "That's it. No more donuts for Masuka"
Dexter - "Tick Tock"
Angel - "Sounds like she got exactly what she had coming to her. Personally, I'd shake this guy's hand"
Dexter - "Yeah, you say that now"
Dexter - "Eventually most serial killers get caught, and there's not much of a retirement plan"
Dexter - "Her husband was a crackhead and her boyfriend is a serial killer. It's kinda hard not to take that personally."
Deb "Any last words? (no response) Figures." Thwack!
Dexter "I barely escaped getting caught this time. I realise now my days are numbered, so I better make the most of them"
Notes -
The commentary track - I can only suggest that you get the DVD to listen to it, because it is very funny. A couple of quotes -
David Zayas (Angel) - "The one thing about being a guest actor on this show is, the chances of you dying is very high"
Erik King (Doakes) - "If my pants get any tighter"
The cast is talking about how Julie Benz is so unlike Rita, and then - Jennifer Carpenter (Deb) - "Michael is exactly his character, though"

Though it kinda feels like I'm talking to myself here, I'll keep going..
Episode 7 - Circle of Friends
Favourite Scene -
The ending. Love that look on Dexter's face! Beautiful stuff. It was brilliantly set up too with the internal monologue from Dexter.
Other scenes I liked -
The music that plays when Dexter goes into Perry's double wide for the first time - Dexter's disbelief that this could possibly be the guy he has been idolising. Then when Dexter and Deb are talking, Dexter is saying this guy could not be the ice truck killer, and a body is pulled out of the ground behind his back. A little comedy gold!
When Paul and Dexter shake hands - the look on Dexter's face is decidedly unimpressed. You can cut the tension with a knife!
The foot massage scene. Wow, Dexter has huge feet. You know what they say about men with big feet.. large shoes..
Perry's crazy singing when he was getting arrested.
The scene where Paul almost punches Dexter!
Favourite Quote
- Doakes - "I swear to Christ Morgan, after this case I'm submitting your ass to psychiatric evaluation."
Other quotes I liked -
Dexter "We don't get together at conventions, share trade secrets, or exchange christmas cards but sometimes I wonder what its like for the others."
Doakes - "You getting a god damn hard on there Morgan?"
Angel - "You're drooling on LaGuerta's couch."
Dexter - "Hardly looks like a guy capable of terrorising Miami - a science camp, maybe"
Rita - "You gave my children to Paul - are you stupid?"
Angel "There will be no contamination of my crime scene."
Deb - "Can I have permission to run Masuka's prints as the ice truck killer?"
Masuka - No need for that. I can give you some warm DNA right now
Deb - "Oh God, you're gross, I didn't hear that"
Rita - "He lost his custody rights right around the time my head hit the living room wall."
Dexter "Dexter Morgan. Ahh.. I can't think of anything clever to say."
Dexter - "When did you first notice it? This.. darkness.. inside the guy you fell for"
Rita - "Well I always knew it was there, I guess I just didn't think I deserved better. Until I met you"
Dexter - "I have a dark side too"
Rita giggles somewhat hysterically
Dexter - "What? I do"
Rita - "Somehow I doubt that. You have a good heart Dexter. You're not like Paul. You don't hurt people"
Dexter - "Innocent people. I don't hurt innocent people."
Dexter - "Focus" (clicking fingers) (great stripey shirt, Dex!)
Dexter - "How do you two plan to eat that? Spread it on toast?"
Astor - "It already has toast in it."
Dexter - "So it does!"
Rita - "I just wish he'd go away. Why can't he just go away and disappear forever?"
Dexter - "He can do that. Very easily"
Notes -
I love the music in this show. I think I've said it before but it needs to be said over and over..
Why did La Guerta put a tap on Perry's home phone when the cops are going through his house looking for evidence?
How much do we all hate Paul? I so dislike him. Please Dexter.. dead him! Paul thinks he is such a tough guy but he would be no match for Dexter.. And hello, he has drugs in his room and he invites Rita in? She could easily have him arrested.
There's so much going on in this episode, including a new relationship for Deb? He's cute, no?
Next Week - Episode 8 - my absolute favourite episode ever.
I'm not sure what preview they played last night on 10.. can anyone fill me in?

Apologies all - I didn't post my wrap up for ep 8. And I'd like to congratulate 10 for spoiling the show for anyone who might not have been watching with their bad promos.
In ep 9 - look out for the wicked purple t-shirt Dexter wears..
Cute!
Oh and also the stripey shirt he;s wearing now.

We bought Season 1 on DVD for Dave's dad for Father's Day. But we ripped it before we gave it to him (is that bad? We did debate it for a while but decided it was for quality control reasons and saved us borrowing it from him in a few weeks anyway). So now I'm actually gonna get to watch it (I'm never around on a regular enough schedule for free to air TV, so I don't even bother).
So free-to-air is up to episode 8... I have some catching up to do to participate in this thread!

Hmmmm Has the popularity of Dexter revealed how many people want to get in touch with their
inner serial killer?
