Bonfires In My Head

WWW
« on: December 31, 2007, 06:54:47 pm »

We're using a modification to the forums called TinyPortal. Tinyportal does a lot of wonderful stuff but in my opinion the all time best feature is the ability to change themes.

On the internet most people tend to prefer a light background for reading. That is why the "Oxygen" theme is the default here at the Aussie Bloggers Forums. However some people (me included) prefer a dark background as it can be easier on the eyes and some people believe it is better for energy saving purposes. So here is how to change themes.

Scroll down until you see the themes section of the left sidebar. It looks like this -

Click on the arrow to drop down the box and choose Helios_Multi TP.

This will change the little thumbnail - if you are ready to switch to the dark theme, click on Change and watch the magic happen.

Helios is called "Multi" because it has 6 different options for the color scheme. My personal favourite is the gold, but to each their own. You'll find the little color boxes in the top right hand corner - click on the one you want to change the color.

Almost everything is different in Helios from the forum icons through to the graphic that tells you there are new posts in a forum - the sphere you can see does a glowing type effect.

I've used this theme on my Fraudstars forums for a while now and I still love it. I wanted to make sure those who wanted to use a dark theme had an option to change themes on the forums. It can mean sometimes that there is a clash - for example the color I chose for my signature block is not a good one to use with Helios, so I'll have to change it. Sometimes smileys will have a white outline - that's life. rwink Build a bridge, because the amount of work to change smileys to have all transparent backgrounds is not on my to do list. Sorry.  rgrin

We admins may choose to add extra themes later - there is another dark one I have my eye on which is a little more plain.
