Image Editing

I have just done a post on online image editing tools in case anyone is interested. I know I was very much out of date on what was available and there are some quite advanced applications now that do a lot of things expensive programs like Photoshop do - without the learning involved. Photoshop was the hardest program to learn for me - I even had to do tutorials

Yes, I saw your post via RSS feed and thought I must go and read that in detail sometime - when I have time
I have 9 presentations coming up in July and decided I better start writing/preparing for them so been busy this weekend. Too busy with client work during the weeks to be able to do my own stuff.

Thanks! I am finally coming to terms with photoshop again after a long absence but sometimes my heart just longs for a one-click solution for resizing, sharpening and adding a copyright and border. There are occasions when Photoshop is just too much of a good thing!

You could do that with Photoshop if you created an Action, which is a series of effects saved as one group (very basically).
Create an action using your tried and true system of resizing, sharpening and adding copyright and border, open your image, click the button to play the action, and Photoshop automatically runs through the effects you want, and applies them to your image.
I don't know how to create an action, only how to use actions made by others, but I'm sure there'd be tutorials on the web somewhere.

You are right Suze, I could make an action, I do use other people's actions a lot (Pioneer Woman - anyone, awesome actions!) My current quick solution is a program called Photocleaner which does what I need but its never quite right. Ok, task for this week is to create an action!

I saw it last night and it was timely because I had to delete a partition last week and reinstall Windows. And then all my programs of course. I didn't bother reinstalling MS office and now just have those few open source programs that I actually use. My computer had become quite a mess with all the junk I'd gathered previously. But I still hadn't decided on a photo editing program. I did install the GIMP, but I uninstalled it pretty quickly. It, like photoshop, was just too much so I went back to Fireworks for design (my only non-OS program so far) but I still what something simple for photos so I will be checking out your list more fully today.
Thanks, Sueblimely.

I use photoimpact - it is very simple but also has a lot of the advanced features of photoshop.

When I changed jobs I started using a couple of free photo editors, GIMP was one. I gave up and got work to get me Photoshop. We get a good deal through work.
Yes, actions are the go. Just think of it as recording a task you do all the time. I use others' actions, The Pioneer Woman's being one lot.

Photoshop is such a memory hog - although the CS3 version has improved on the earlier ones. I tend to have a lot of programs open at the same time - office, dreamweaver and of course firefox and PS can slow my system down so I am only inclined to use it when I am doing some heavy editing or for image creation.
I use Irfanview for quick editing jobs. It is particularly good for reducing the quality of an image so it is not too large for the web but you can do crop, resize and some basic photo enhancing things. I use Irfanview as my default image viewer too so to edit an image all I have to do is click in the filename.
