So what are people doing for NYE? While I don't necessarily subscribe to the thought that "thy must party just because it's NYE" it's a little difficult not too when most the rest of the population is out there shaking it.

So what's on the agenda? Watching local fireworks? Gathering of family/friends? All night dance party? The night off blogging (surely)?! rwink

Let me answer my own question first. rsmiley

We're going to try and access the rooftop area of my old apartment block which has views of about ... (?)40 per cent of the Sydney Harbour fireworks (so we can see the show without the mayhem of getting in and out of Sydney CDB) and then most likely head to a local bar where we'll stay until we are thrown out! rsmiley

I have worked almost every New Year since I turned 18.  And loved it.  You tend to get all the party energy without being stuck in the mess.  Now I have bub so I won't be working but having been on the other side of the bar for all those years, I can't say going out appeals at all. I've been invited to a house party, but I think this year I'll just stay home.

That's nice for me, because one of the only years I didn't work my Oma was visiting from overseas.  It was the first and only time we got to spend together as just the two of us.  Afterwards, she sent me a long letter about how wonderful it was and not long after that she passed away. (This is meant to be a nice story, not a sad one.)

I think that on New Year's I shall put on Sinead O'Connor's jazz CD, which we listened to that night, and do a jigsaw puzzle for my Oma.

I swear it's not because I'm boring.  In truth, it's because I'm a snob. rsmiley

I'm completely partied out.. rwink I must be getting old or something. A quiet one at home with the other half - well, as quiet at those down from Sydney for the partying are going to allow it to be. rwink

It's crazy down on the South Coast at the moment - I went to the shops and was shocked by the amount of people queuing up just to get lunch at the chicken shop!

I'd really like to go snorkelling on New Years Day but good luck finding a peaceful place at that time of year around here.. We went out for a drive on Christmas Day down to Vincentia and saw dolphins surfing in the waves - and even on Christmas Day there were kids trying to swim out to them. Perhaps Santa didn't bring them anything..  rshocked

NYE will see The Spouse and I sitting in the backyard watching the (illegal) neighbourhood fireworks and listening to our fav radio whilst paddling our feet in something cold.
Probably with friends sprawled on the lawn being eaten by mozzies too LOL.

I will be sitting with a disgruntled 14 year old that forgot to organise anything (her sister will be par-taying with her friends, under full adult supervision) begging the little terror to please please go to sleep while my husband gets to look at half naked teens all night, he is a nightclub DJ on the side, on our wedding anniversary.

Methinks, knock the kids out early and cradle a bottle of wine.

Happy Anniversary Kelly

We will be staying at home as is quite usual for NYE these days. I have no sitters for my youngest this year either - daughter has moved to Perth and son is away on holiday.

We used to live in Kirribilli and had a wonderful view of Sydney harbour from the rooftop of our units - their was no better place for us to be on NYE.

There are supposedly fireworks going off near the London Eye, but they won't be anywhere near as spectacular as the Sydney display we're used to, so we'll probably hang around near the balcony and hope to spy some of the action from home.

I'm not a big party-goer!

I don't have anything planned.  Will just be at home watching the fireworks on the TV with my girl and the dogs.

Thanks Sue.  My brother has a view of the Sydney Harbor Bridge from his balcony.  But he wont be home.  So that fabulous view will go to waste....

I'm a 'nigel no friends' as well. The tradition that's emerged in our house the last few years is that my partner and daughter fall asleep well before midnight and I ring in the New Year by myself LOL.  I'm not a partier anymore and the crowded bar scene just doesn't have the same glitter that it used to.  That said there's something very gratifying to me in a quiet New Years Eve.

I'll probably watch the fireworks, keep an eye on the forums here and perhaps do a bit of blogging.

Happy New Year everyone!

Well the city could be fun.. rwink

I decided to have me a little West Wing with Jimmy Smits marathon myself, seeing as I just finished season 2 of NYPD Blue and it wasn't quite enough - though I did see quite a lot *more* of him than I expected - that was quite the saucy show for back in those days! -  and I have to wait to get season 3! rwink

Donna and I were due to go to a Wii party (hosted by Matt Hodgson) but it was cancelled, so we're going to watch LOTR episode 1 and drink really good Pinot instead rsmiley

Another useful reminder.  While I might be sitting here "working"  rwink, I think I can justify opening a bottle of wine. In fact, I'm going to open that Bordeaux I've been saving.

Last night I finally left our stinking hot house and went to a party not too far from our house. It was good to catch up with some people I don't see all the time and bring the new year in. My son stayed up with me until we left about 1ish. I was glad to get home and go to bed. I need some alcohol free days now (not that I drank much last night cause I had to drive).

Happy new year everyone. We're about to go to a cool cinema and catch a movie. auto

Well the city won out - but only because I've been promised McLeod's DVDs later in the week.

We got there about 11:30 and left by 1. Yeah, we're hardcore. PLUS, thirty bucks to get in and nine dollars for a drink????

All whinging aside, HAPPY NEW YEAR, all!!!
