The sidebar on the left hand side of the screen contains the following information:

Search box
Recent Posts List
ShoutBox
Themes (you have a choice of two)
Stats area
Permissions (which may not do anything, depending on your role in the forum)

Each option can be expanded or hidden depending on your individual preferences (what you use and don't use).


Simply click on the little white triangle next to each option heading:



If all options are hidden the sidebar will look like this:
