Sorry - I am a bit of a dud team member and I think I will have to give the 30 challenge away. I just can't download the videos on our crappy dial-ip - it took me 4 hours to get one downloaded the other day and I can't do anything else online while it downloads rsad - I wish they had written transcripts of it all.... it would be so much easier for me to follow.

Anyway... hope you guys learn heaps of stuff and share all the good bits here! LOL

I'm doing the 30Dc for the first time (thanks for the heads up on it Lightening). My sister has organised a team for us, otherwise I would have loved to join in with you all. Do you mind if I participate in this thread anyway, or is it just for team members?

Kate - I'm sorry.  I had grand plans to blog about the various stages of the challenge and have gotten behind myself.

Tamsyn - You are more than welcome to post here.  This thread is for anyone on the forums to contribute to and read at will.

Sorry to hear you are leaving us Kate, but with download issue like that I can understand.

An update on my progress - I still have a way to go with the preseason, but my dear partner is taking next week off work so I can spend loads of time on blogging related stuff.  My aim is to get through the bulk of it then.

I'm having similar problems Maykem, I swear I've signed up for three different things now, the membership area, the forums, the videos, and they still seem to want me to create another account.

I was also a bit miffed at the email sent out a few days ago, the "we promise to never spam you, but hey, try this!" the wording to me was very spammy and it just made me fairly uncomfortable about the whole thing  xundecided

I am feeling a bit lost from the team at the moment.  I have tried the IM Newbie Forum and couldn't find much talk there.  I have sent a request to join the Team Lightening Room last week end and still can't get in.  I would love some advice on where to head to catch up with people before the challenge actually starts.   xsmiley

Hi PlanningQueen

The Friendfeed room hasn't been overly active either.  Mostly interesting links being posted, but nothing for a few days.  I think the idea is to use Friendfeed for "hey, look at this, it might be helpful" type things (at this stage anyway - it might change when the challenge starts).  The IM Newbie forum is for more private conversations from what I understand.  I'm not sure what's happened to everyone.  Life probably  xsmiley  If there's anything you'd like to chat about, I'll check into the IM Newbie forum later on.

@Fern & Mayken - sorry you guys are having a hard time signing up.  It sounds like they are getting a ton of new registrations rushing in.  Not an excuse, mind you.  It should work.  I've got no suggestions, sorry   xsad

FWIW, they have a ban on advertising during the actual challenge.  There has been a bit of name dropping and strategic product placement for their own products during the preseason, but nothing too annoying.  Is the email you're referring to the one about Traffic Secrets by John Reese?  Way out of my price range, but I have previously registered to watch his free promotional videos and found them really informative.

Cheers

Fern & Mayken - I'm not sure what's going on with sign ups.  What Journeyer has said makes sense though.

As for spam - I have a vague recollection of the 1 email but can't really even remember what it was about.  It's certainly not something I have noticed being a problem.

Planning Queen - sorry, I haven't had much to say anywhere.  I thought I was going to get caught up on the preseason stuff this week but that hasn't quite happened (have done some just not all).  I have been keeping an eye on the Team Lightening thread in the 30-Day Challenge Forums and popping in to the IM forums but haven't had a lot to say on either.  If you have something to say, go ahead and say it and it might prompt some discussion.  Have you tried leaving a message in the IM forums for Razor (who set up the friendfeed room for Team Lightening)?  I think he started a thread about the FriendFeed room.  Otherwise, feel free to post here because quite a number of us are active here and will see your post.

Hi Journeyer and Lightening - Thanks for the feedback.  I am now in the room and I from having  a look around I can understand about what you mean about it being a place to share stuff easily.

I have some stuff that I would love to chat over with some of you very smart people in my team.  I am going to post this here and in the IM forum, because I am not sure wehre to post it really!

With regard to the 10 ideas, I only came across that part from someone else in the team and didn't recall seeing anything on this in pre-season officially.  I have a list together but was wondering are we supposed to do much more that have a list.  For example do we need to do any keyword research or check for domain name availability etc?

Hope I will be able to keep up with the pace of 30DC.  Trying to do a bit of pre planning around other stuff, to free up some time.

Cheers,
PQ

The list of 10 ideas was mentioned casually toward the end of one of the preseason videos I watched.  Because I'm not 100% up to date, I'm not sure if it was mentioned more formally elsewhere.  However, from what I've read on the forums, plenty of people missed it (the mention).

As far as I know, we've not been asked to do anything more with these ideas.  I assume that will take place as part of the actual challenge.

I noticed on Twitter that you'd gotten into the Friendfeed room so that's good.  rsmiley

Bah, I give up,  it's a pretty shoddy site if they don't have the sign up working, or even a way to contact the site administrator to tell them about the errors.

I'm sure all those who did manage to get in will learn a lot, but as I can't then I will just have to be un-enlightened.  rhuh

Room for one more?

I've just caught up with the pre-season stuff. I'm still a little shocked though as in a couple of hours I went from "Firefox, there can never be another, anything else is second rate" to "hey, this Flock thing is kinda sweet!" and I am now using it as my main browser. I still have Firefox on though for a few extensions I need, but Flock is excellent.

I'm a little dizzy from joining all the social networking stuff though, hopefully that will not take up so much time now it is set up as I really do not want to spend my time doing that rather than actual blogging.

My blog is new, so not ready to make money yet, but I think it's great to have the skills in place ready for when it does.

What can I offer the team? Not sure really  xlaugh I'm at the techie end of the scale though, more at home building web sites, doing graphics, that sort of thing rather than marketing, or even blogging.

Oh, and I'm in Brissy by the way, but can't make the coffee get together I saw mentioned somewhere for this week.

Oh yes, my Twitter is: https://twitter.com/Natator

rsmiley

OK, must be me being slow .... just found the thread on the 30DC forum where everyone seems to have landed, so will see you all over there rsmiley

Natator - I've responded to your post on the 30 Day Challenge Forums.

Mayken - sorry to hear you're having so much trouble.  It sounds like it is absolute mayhem over there with last minute sign ups.

I've written a couple of posts which you may or may not find helpful in the meantime if you're interested:

30 Day Challenge Notes

The second one will be published tonight and is basically a "quick list" of what I recommend to focus on if you haven't had time to do all the preseason stuff.

The good news is that the information stays on the site well after the challenge is over so there is still plenty of time for you to take advantage of the available information, even if you don't sign up until well into or even after the challenge.

For those who've had trouble with the videos, transcripts are now being done.  There is a couple of days delay with them but it at least puts the information out there for those who can't watch the videos.

They're available on each training page - if you look to the right of the links for each video where they have SD and HD, there should also be a "T" when the transcript is available.  Right click the "T" to download the transcript.

I haven't tried it but that's the basic instructions as far as I recall them.

Even if you're not interested in making money online, there is some great information to be had so they're worth a look.

I can only support Lightening in that even if you are not sure about the money making aspect, the tools that I have learnt to use (and I am a very new to all this social media stuff) have been incredibly helpful.

The 30 Day Challenge is rocking along at a rapid pace, but I am enjoying what I am learning.  Money part aside, if you wanted some tips on promoting your blog there is some great advice here.
