Warning - if you have not seen Dexter, keep out of this thread. rsmiley

Now that many of us have seen seasons one and two, here's a thread where you can put your favourite Dexter quotes, discuss your favourite episodes and characters, and perhaps if you dare, speculate on where Season 3 might be headed.  rsmiley

I just caught episode one again on Showcase, and this little gem struck me -

Doakes "Grab a crayon psycho, and scribble this down"

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=DhLdv1mqmoo

(warning, the clip contains swearing and possibly offensive fake crime scene images)

And if you're a Doakes fan, you'll probably enjoy this montage - warning, LOADS of swearing!

I think season 3 will have Dexter finding out that Harry did not commit suicide and that, in fact, he was investigating his partner (the current captain) in the "technical slip ups" that were letting crims walk free  rwink

I can't believe that I have been watching this show on showcase and missing out on talking about it here with you guys.

Last week I rewatched the first two episodes (because showcase is repeating them) and it struck me how tightly put together that first episode was. It had everything it needed. A perfect package.

I wonder how 10 will handle all Doakes swearing when they air it? He likes to use some pretty rude words.

Breaking News! ! ! !

Can there possibly be anything better than this news I have just read? I cannot imagine there being anything better.. I have a google alerts set for Dexter, and it just told me this..

Emmy® and Golden Globe® award-winner Jimmy Smits will wade into the murky world of Miami’s most notorious serial killer as he joins the cast of SHOWTIME’s top-rated drama series DEXTER.  Smits will be featured in ten of the third season’s 12 episodes which are scheduled to premiere this fall on SHOWTIME.

Be careful with the link below, it is mildly spoilery though not much. rwink

http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/06/jimmy-smits-to.html

Michael C Hall & Jimmy Smits working together. I think my mind just exploded with joy and anticipation.

(in case nobody knew, I am a *huge* Jimmy Smits fan)

That was big news.

I actually just saw the show for the first time in the last week (yes - watched both seasons) and I enjoyed it.  It wasn't exactly what I expected. Much less of the action & gore and more of a quiet achiever.

And (slightly off topic) is it just me, or do you wish the seasons ended with cliffhangers rather than resolutions?  It's been happening with too many series lately.  Maybe it will resolve itself in a year, once scheduling has recovered from the writers strike, but it really peeves me when good series are left hanging, the writers not knowing whether they are going forward or not.

Going back through both seasons - I watched season 2 a second time because I recorded them all on my dvd recorder, and I'm half way through one via showcase repeats.. the more I watch the episodes the more finely crafted they appear. There is very little in them that isn't relevant to the big picture in some way. And that first episode ever was absolutely perfect.

I just wonder where they can possibly take it from here. I'm sure they'll do it and it will be fantastic. It isn't easy to anticipate what they'll do and the little hint given with the Jimmy Smits press release makes me wonder who this murderer they'll be chasing kills..  rwink

I didn't read the link - I like surprises.  But I agree that it is a well-crafted show.  Looking forward to Season 3.

Don't get the attraction though.  But then, I was ever weird in my taste in men.  Jimmy Smits does nothing for me.  And Michael C Hall really does nothing for me. And yet... I'd let Jeff Goldblum stick his shoes under my bed.

Like I said... Ever weird.  xlaugh

Nothing weird about letting Jeff Goldblum stick his shoes under your bed Lani. Nothing at all!

Have you ever seen NYPD Blue? Maybe that is a must see for being a Jimmy Smits fan. rsmiley But he was also awesome in The West Wing.

When I first started watching Dexter I thought Michael C Hall was not attractive, but somehow he has grown on me over time. I think it might have a lot to do with the ads they showed on showcase for what was on next week during season one. And they have this one on there now where he says "Watch it or I'll kill you" - his delivery of lines like that is so brilliant. rwink

I am SO hanging out for season 3! I'M the MOST impatient person in the world when it comes to things like this. I was almost rabid waiting for the final season of The West Wing to come on. I went looking for spoilers because I was desperate to know who was elected!

This one doesn't contain any spoilers that I can see but just to be safe I've put it in here. rwink

Rita talks Dexter and Season 3

(well, she doesn't say anything about season 3 really, but there's some interesting stuff about what she did to get the role of Rita.)

The second book and the second series are nothing alike. There was a point somewhere in season one where the book went one way and the series went another - they never really crossed paths in the second series at all, from memory. I must re-read the book. rsmiley
