Hmmm... am I just slow or is this new (2.5.1?) .... all my individual posts (ie viewing the post by itself) now have a 'possibly related posts' thing at the bottom, linking to other similarly-tagged posts...?

Nope, I wasn't imagining things. Phew. It's a wordpress.com thing only, by the looks of it.

98 files that have been changed in this update. They have also changed to use parameters in SQL statements (instead of pasting in the actual value which might have issue with SQL injection). A good move -- I cannot imagine people are still not using prepared statements these days. However a dangerous move especially 2.5.1 is supposed to be only a security update to 2.5. A rewrite on every SQL statement bound to break something somewhere...

A bite! Matt Mullenweg himself commented on my B is for Blogging Platform post.

We'll see if he takes my offer to volunteer seriously.

Cheers, Andrew

Hi Naomi,

weird, huh? rsmiley The two domains containing critical comments about WordPress are currently timing out (facibus.com/onblogging and onblogging.com.au), but not others on the same server. The Gods of Open Source are obviously mad at me rsmiley

It's back now - if interested, see my epic reply to Matt Mullenweg.

In it I have offered to volunteer for a virtual call centre for reporting WordPress issues - I have an idea of how this might actually work in practice which I will pass to Matt privately.

Cheers, Andrew

Hmmm... interesting read. I'm not overly impressed with Matt's reply, though.

Hmmm... interesting read. I'm not overly impressed with Matt's reply, though.

We (the people with issues) are effectively saying that he is a bad man and that his beloved first born child is a delinquent - he can be reasonably expected to be cautious in his acceptance of criticism.

That said, he does (as Steve Collins wrote in his second comment) need to be responsive rather than just be seen to be responsive to the pain that people are feeling over release 2.5. I've put one possible solution to him, we'll see how he takes it.

Best regards, Andrew

Hi,

the second response from Matt Mullenweg is a lot more upbeat. It seems he is genuinely interested in calming our collectively ruffled feathers.

His response does not address all of my personal concerns, but it is fairly positive. Time will, of course, tell rsmiley

Best regards, Andrew

Thanks for the links and tips on upgrading.  I am about to embark on my first upgrade this week.  I have to admit to being scared!

Yup - having just read the full comment thread, it looks like Matt is pretty interested in hearing all the feedback and being responsive.  Interesting about letting him know about the rude mods in the help forums.

I would suggest those forums could use a big cleanup, and perhaps some more structure so that it is easier for people to find answers before asking.  Might improve tempers somewhat.
