From an SEO viewpoint, it is useful to put your keyword phrase in the anchor text of your forum signature. I know this forum is new and has low link power, but over time this will improve.

The format is as follows:

{url=your url here}anchor text{/url}

Example: {url=http://www.widgets.com.au}Best widget prices{/url}

Note, for instructional purposes I have had to substitute { } for [ ] otherwise this system would translate the code rwink

Make sure that when you try it to use the square brackets ( [ or ]), rather than the curley brackets that I have used in the example.

Give it a go.

Thanks Squadron - very helpful rsmiley

One small edit

Quote
Example: {url=http://www.widgets.com.au}Best widget prices/url}

should be Example: {url=http://www.widgets.com.au}Best widget prices{/url}

of course replacing the { } with [ ]

I'm always messing up those brackets, usually that exact bracket or the one in front of the text. rsmiley I posted a post with about 4 links in it yesterday and it took me maybe 5 edits, a magnifying glass and a complete rewrite of the code to get it right in the end.  :blushing:

Don't tell anyone, they all think I'm so technically talented and skillful!  :gum: :gum:

What would be the best thing to use for a keyword phrase?  Like the name of the blog?

Hey Snos - even technically talented and skillful people are allowed to make mistakes.   rsmiley

You can also change the color of the text by a careful arrangement of tags.. rwink

My signature link looks like this -

Code:
[url=http://www.snoskred.org/][size=16pt][color=#000099]~ Snoskred - Life In The Country ~[/color][/size][/url]

If you like, you can copy and paste that - change the URL to yours and put in the text you want - and then simply change the color.

For the search engine optimisation neophytes (nice word that), anchor text is the text that describes the link.

Anchor text is very, very, very (I can't stress this too much), important from a search engine point of view.

If you're selling blue widgets, it is far better to have cheap blue widgets as the link anchor text than Fred's widget emporium.

Ask yourself: "What would people enter into Google to find a site like mine?".

Whatever that search term is should be the anchor text.

For more information, do a Google search on "Google bombing" and you'll learn why anchor text is sooooo important.

Here's a test, what search term/s is my signature optimised for?

So next question can you make this into an attachment or do you have manually put it in all the time?
