WWW

Step 1. Make sure you are logged in. Click on Profile in the top left corner of your screen.

Step 2. In the left column of your screen you will see a Modify Profile section.  Click on the menu item you wish to edit. (Menu Items described below.)

  • Account Related Settings: Select this to edit your display name, email address (hide/unhide), password, and security question.  This information is private. Your current password is required to edit it.
  • Forum Profile Information: Select this to edit your public profile, including your web address, your avatar and your post signature.  (More details below.)
  • Look and Layout Preferences: Select this to change the way you view the forum, select your default theme, add your time zone, etc.
  • Notifications and Email: Select this to edit your email notification preferences or to manage the topics you currently receive notifications about.
  • Personal Message Options: Select this to block/allow private messages from individual members or all members.  Manage your ignore list.

Step 3. Make your changes.

Step 4. Save!

Each area contains clear descriptions of the changes you can make, but the Forum Profile Information is usually the area where people make the most changes so those options will be described here in detail. (Note: If you do not wish this information to be public, do not add it there.)

Edit Your Forum Profile

1. Add an avatar and personal text.. This is the image which will be displayed in your profile and next to all your posts. You may choose from one available here, link to an image hosted elsewhere on the web or upload an image from your computer. The personal text is the byline or slogan which is displayed beneath your avatar.

2. Add birthdate, location and gender.

3. Add instant messaging identities.  This will enable other users to contact you outside of the forum.

4. Add custom title and signature.  The custom title is shown beneath your display name beside your posts and the signature is displayed at the bottom of every post.  The signature field may contain hyperlinks to your blog and can be formatted.  If you are not comfortable with the forum code, try designing it within a post window, using the preview function and then copying the code into this field.

5. Add the title and URL of your blog.  This displays as an icon link in your posts and in full on your profile page.

7. Save!

You may now view your edited profile by clicking on Profile in the top left corner of your screen, as above.  All forum members may view your profile by clicking on your display name in forum posts.  Again, if you do not want this information to be public, do not add it.

Your profile information will display in your forum posts as follows:

(Note: All changes are retroactive.  If you change your avatar, for example, all your old posts will display the new avatar, not the old one.)

Hi Lani (or one of the other mods?)

You'll see from my signature that the last word in my blog title is getting censored .
Funnily enough the filter thats picking up "crap" is happily letting "shitfaced" through.  rgrin

Hi Ian,

we spent days building that list of stopwords rsmiley

My guess is that sh*tfaced is not long for this world rsmiley

The stopword list probably isn't going to get any more relaxed any time soon. The easiest thing is to substitute a character * or - in the word in your signature. The next easiest thing is to change the blog title to "my blog" or something equally as vanilla. Either way, you aren't getting the full SEO goodness of having the whole blog title as your link. Interesting issue. Myself or one of the other admin/moderator types will need to get back to you on this.

Cheers, Andrew

Congratulations Ian, you are the first person to experience the joys of the censored words filter. rwink

I'll discuss with the other admins and see if we can remove that word from the filter.. rsmiley

Ha ha!  rgrin  I'm usually pretty good at crash testing things.  Give me a new software product and I'm sure to find a way to break it in no time.

I don't regard "crap" as an offensive word - I take it to mean junk more than sh*t. Mind you that doesn't offend me either, but I think I was largely desensitised to swearing in an old job which involved lots of negotiating with blue collar union delegates.  I really only object to constant use of the F and C bombs.

If you let "crap" through, I'll be good and refrain from using bad words here.  angel

I'll censor the "sh*tfaced" myself ...it comes from a line of a song that I particularly like.

PS:  Since I wrote the above I see "crap" is now legal.  Thanks.

Ian,

you can now run wild and free and ... well, use the word crap rsmiley

Best regards, Andrew

PS: seeing as you are from Kamberra - if you have no objections, I'll add you to the Canberra blog list.

Solved, we all agreed that seeing it was your blog name it isn't an offensive word.

However that wouldn't apply if the blog name contained one of the BIG 3 swear words, which we won't be removing the word filter from. rwink

It is possible we may have put a few too many words on the offensive list - we'll adjust that as we go along I guess. We did want to cover every possibility. rwink

Better to have too many words on the list to start with than not enough I think.  rwink

Can you crop the Avatar so that it is the right size??? Or is it not the size that you are worried about??

Also, what did you want to delete on your profile???

80x80 pixels is actually pretty large for an avatar.

Let me know what you want changed on your profile and I can fix it.

We don't allow people to delete their profiles or accounts. If you wanted us to do that we could, but it isn't something we like to do without a very good reason.

These things are sent to try us? Another forum I was on wouldn't ever accept my avatar and in the end an admin had to put it there for me but then I couldn't edit my signature. Got very frustrated with it.
