Good read and good points. Probably some there that people won't want to hear.

And I've been to Bella Vista Waters and some most of those houses are huge. And to make it worse, because its a reasonably new area, there aren't that many trees. I like having trees around.

great article

Yup, and I'm in the process of linking to it.  xgrin  Thanks Ben.

Right now, I'm almost in the "mortgage trauma" category, despite the fact that I was very sensible when I bought.  But life circumstances (and incomes  xwink) change.  When that happens, you have to make some changes too.  It really is a great article.

Many great suggestions there.  Will file them away for when/if we get a place of our own.

I'm househunting in Sydney at the moment.

For the most part the article is a very good read.

However I currently live right between Bella Vista Waters and Blacktown.

Technically, you can buy a 4 bedroom house in a quiet street in Blacktown for under $300,000.
There are 4 on RE.com and all look like they need a fair bit of maintenance.
And the last time I visited a friend in Blacktown she was telling me about the car-bombing across the street the week before.

No thanks.

The suggestions can be summarised as

(1) earn more
(2) spend less

Well. That's about it! We all know the principle, but how we go about exercising it is another story. Also a side effect with interest rate rise is, corporates might not be able to get enough credits to fund more work, thus "asking for more pay" might not be that practical. Although I think we might need a few more interest rate rise to get to that...

I work not that far from Blacktown (well on the other side to you) and live not that far away and I hear you. As much as I would hate to be classified as living in a McMansion in Bella Vista, its probably better than some of the alternatives nearby. I think it depends which "side" of Blacktown you live in. And at least Blacktown itself doesn't have the buses not running due to rock throwing etc.....
