Says a lot for my attention to the news lately, I didn't even know there was one in orbit let alone a landing.  Actually did it even make the news, or are space flights just business as usual nowadays and not newsworthy.

Burn completed. Touchdown will be about 1:07am (EST) our time.

Ian - space flight is not news unless something crashes or has the potential of crashing, apparently. The media would rather say the same unimportant things over and over. Nasa TV rocks, because you get to see everything you want to see. They'll probably mention it *after* it happens safely, kind of as an afterthought.

This was an interesting piece to read...I live in Florida... about 40 mins south of Kennedy Space Centre and you can go out into our front yard and watch the Shuttle going up... the nighttimes ones are the better... we walk over to the beach to watch them going up there... it lights up the whole night sky... then when they are coming in to land at KSC... you can hear the boom as it re-enters the atmosphere and the walls shake and there has been once or twice where something has fallen off the wall because of the boom... to watch them come in is amazing... one day we were up at Merritt Island and stopped on the side of the road to watch the shut going up... we were on the other side of the river... you could feel the vibrations going through the ground... as for the NASA channel... that is amazing. The area I live in is on the Space Coast where alot of stuff is geared towards NASA and alot of the NASA workers live here... my friend's husband works for NASA and deals with the Shuttles but of course he can't tell you much... TOP SECRET... never in my life did I think that I would experience this... if ever you are in Florida and like Space stuff... to go to KSC is a must...

On the subject of NASA, does this idea freak you out a little?  Or is it just that I've been watching too much sci-fi lately?

NASA plans to smash spacecraft into the moon
