What's your opinion on blog directories?

Have you submitted to many? Paid for any? Do you see any pitfalls?

Here's a list of quite a few http://www.toprankblog.com/rss-blog-directories/

I've never used them, and personally I dont see much of a point in them anymore with how good Google, Yahoo, etc. have gotten......though possibly if you're a business it might be worthwhile but even so I believe there are better ways to spend your money..

With so many blogging communities popping up now that I think that the directories are losing their relevancy.. I could be entirely wrong though, but I still wouldn't pay for a listing.

Surely they can't hurt - 'any publicity is good publicity' and all that, so even if you only get a few click-through's every year, those uniques could turn into return visitors?

I'm a member of the expat blog directory and even though I'm not active there I know I get a few visitors from my profile every now and then, and that's never a bad thing  xwink

I agree with amyjoanna to a certain extent. It certainly is beneficial to be seen and have links from many avenues but I think as bloggers we still have to be selective in terms of which directories that we would like our blogs or sites to be seen in because our online reputation does matter. So my point is: be seen but be seen in the right places. rsmiley

Does anyone know of blog directories with bad reputations - just in case I need to unsubscribe.  Although I am not sure you can unsubscribe to most of them.
