Thanks Snoskred for this interesting link. Really helps an non-Aussie blogger like me to see a different side of Australians (esp the note on Vegemite on bread). On the same note, would there be a possibility of exploring '20 things that culturally define social media (especially blogging) in Australia compared to other countries?

Or is it same to say that blogging and social media have a universal culture?

Something to think about I guess. rsmiley

Austalia is also the largest poetry buying country in the world (per head of population).

As to on line culture, compare this blog to others.  I think it has a different feel.

Would be interested to hear if other think so too.

You know, in the book Black Box by Nicholas Faith, it is suggested that a large reason why Qantas have such a good safety record is our willingness to stand up to our bosses. rwink

Wow poetry huh... I guess Singapore (where I'm from) can sure learn something from Australians... our creative industries really are struggling to keep it together and we only have ONE broadcaster in our country... ONE!! Where is the democracy in that!!

Oh by the way, sorry Evan.. I think you forgot the link or maybe I missed it somewhere in your post... rtongue

That list is fantastic, and I have emailed the link around to all my non-Aussie friends, thanks so much Snoskred!

In a somewhat related manner I posted earlier today on my own blog about what Australians miss when they're overseas.  I'm about to head over to the UK for a few years and I need to think of things to demand my friends and family send over - so if you think I've missed any thing, feel free to let me know  xgrin

Here's the link to my post.

That would be because it isn't actually a blog. rsmiley

From his about page:

Quote
Your articles involve a lot of your own opinion. Why didn't you just make a blog?

It's bloody awful, that emo shit Because, eventually, just like the awful emo scene, the blog movement will die. It's inevitable. One day, people will realize that the more successful blogs are actually either run by journalists with excellent sources, or web designers that place a lot of careful thought into design.

Believe me, blogs will die. Yeah, yeah, I know, I have my own little blog thing on that MySpace page of mine, but then again, so does everyone else on MySpace - but if you do end up taking the time to check out that blog thingo on MySpace, you'll notice I approach the whole thing in a unique manner.

The-TrukstoP.com is a web site - not a blog. I don't do trends, I find my own groove.

Many moons ago before the internet, when I was overseas, I used to get my brothers to tape a couple of the local radio stations and send it to me when they were sending a "care package". I really missed hearing any Aussie music and just the ads etc that we get used to hearing.

No though, most if not all stations would offer some kinf of a podcast of their programmes, either from their own website or itunes or similar.

And news!!!! Why is it that when you are overseas Australia may have fallen off the earth. It seems so hard to get general news of the things going on "back home".

Mind you, compared to whats available now I was travelling in the dark ages LOL
