I suspected this might happen at some point. Someone has put a "drop yours" section on their actual Entrecard. If you click it, you're clicking on the ad.


This is really not a good idea. I think it is bound to piss people off rather than bring traffic.

Hi Snos,

I think it roundly sucks - you should report this person (which you would do by following their ad then going to their profile page).

I've reported other Entrecarders for accepting ads and then hiding the widget off their main page but never received a response back from the administrators. If they ignore something like this, I would be happy to take part in a whisper campaign to promote the banning of this sort of BS.

I agree, it's a bit of a "rort the system" type prank in my opinion.  Assuming that is still Turnip of Powers widget, it's not like that blogger really needs to stoop to stuff like this either. 

It's only confusing for people - especially newbies and THAT isn't good for the program and therefore not good for any of us.

So completely unacceptable.  And as Lightening said, the Turnip is everywhere.  Why be tacky?  Maybe the stats ticking over is more important to him than getting traffic of real value.

Well, he tried to advertise on the aussie bloggers blog, and I knocked him back. The first time I have ever declined anyone's ad. If you look at his page you don't see the added on bit, so I am wondering how he is doing that.

the icon is the one first uploaded, I think you can change it subsequently and the original stays on the profile page? Not sure, might be worth an experiment.

If you change your pic, place an ad, then change your pic, the ad you placed will use the old pic.  I think.  The profile should always display the latest pic.

I guess for some, the value of individuality is highly overrated. 

Although the logo kind of makes sense for them.

As soon as I saw that logo, I thought of Darren and Problogger. Copycats don't do themselves any good, they merely promote those they copy.

But I think in this case, if Darren has copyrighted his image, he might be able to do something if he wanted to.

I think these Entrecarders are simply desperate to get noticed. Rather than let Entrecard work for them, they are working hard to "win" the system. Sadly, what these people don't know is that bloggers are not sheep. We don't blindly fall into traps like these. Once we find out about about these "scams", their reputation is forever tarnished.

That is a shame. I thought Site Hoppin quite good until I saw this. I have used it for finding Entrecard sites.  This has put me right off it.
I agree that for those who realize it will do them harm. For those who don't recognize it, why bother, it makes no difference. Either way I think it pointless.

I just noticed this when I checked my profile. I've changed my icon, but the original is still showing on my profile page.

When a MyBlogLog avatar is used when I leave comments, it is still showing a photo of me wearing a Christmas hat even though that image is long gone from my MBL profile. Makes me feel a right dill. Must try and do something about it.

Interesting that according to an article on his blog dated the 21st of Feb he doesn't need to advertise at all using Entrecard. I wonder what his thinking was behind the ad
