I've been searching high and low for a tutorial on how to add a poll in a wordpress post. I see Darren Rowse doing it sometimes, while others only have a tiny little "Poll" link at the end of their post. I have checked several wordpress tutorial blogs but can't find anything.

Would someone please point me in the right direction of a post explaining the How To Add A Poll within a post on Wordpress? Like Darren does it.

I was going to do a poll asking people to vote on who they thought will win the super bowl, but now it's too late. But I still want to know how.  :rundecided:

If you're on self-hosted WordPress, there are plugins available.

I have used this one: http://lesterchan.net/portfolio/programming.php - it was really easy to set up.

You have WP Polls installed as standard on your blog, which is the plugin Goatlady linked to there. You also have WP Polls widget installed, which means you can put a poll in your sidebar, you just have to go into presentation (light blue) widgets (dark blue) and put the poll block into your sidebar.

According to the support forums you can embed a poll into a post by going into code mode in the write screen (see where it says visual below all the buttons, just under that it says code, sort of like a tab. Switch to code to go to code mode) and adding the following code -

Code:
[poll=1]

I haven't tried it and I have no idea if it works.

Maybe Sephy can do a post on polls - how to make one, etc. Sephy?

I think you edit the polls in options somewhere, but it's been a while and my memory is foggy. The support forums can be found here.

I have an "insert poll" icon on my "visual" screen (top line).  Click on that and it asks for the poll ID (so you need to have created the poll first and make note of the ID (which I think is a number).

Polls has it's own section along the light blue section (mine is right at the end).  That allows you to create new polls and edit etc.

However, while that inserted the poll into my post, it didn't show up in the feedreader.  I know whatever Darren Rowse uses, you can actually respond to the poll from your feedreader.  Would love to know how he does that.

I'd love to see Sephy do a post on this. Three cheers for Sephy!  xgrin

I saw Lightenings poll, but as she mentioned, it only shows a tiny little button you have to click on. I want the poll to actually show completely within a post and show up in feeds like Darren's does. Dang he's good!  xtongue

Thanks Snoskred!

Darren uses "Democracy" for his polls (I took a sneaky peek at the coding on one of his poll posts)

Although the plugin page says the download  is a sidebar widget for use with Andrew Sutherland's Democracy Poll widget this Wordpress.org download contains both the poll and the sidebar widget and the files are newer.

I'd have to add democracy to the testing plugins list, it would be a few weeks before I got to it, I have a fair bit going on at the moment.

Maybe head over to the wp polls forums and ask how you can get your poll to appear in the rss feed? It might be a quicker way of solving the problem.
