Get Dexter!

Many Australians became fans of Michael C. Hall while watching the series Six Feet Under. The show was popular with Australians because it starred Rachel Griffiths, an Australian actress.

However until now only those with Australian pay tv – or those who *ahem* downloaded episodes from the internet – have been lucky enough to see the new series “Dexter” which airs on Showcase. This changes on February the 14th, when Dexter season one is released in Australia. You can pre-order it today from JB Hifi and you get a bonus Dexter t-shirt.

Dexter is not a show for the faint hearted. It is a black comedy based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. The character Dexter is a serial killer with a difference – he only kills other serial killers. He works for the police department in forensics as his day job.

Recently there was some controversy around one of the commercials for the show. I found out about this thanks to TV Tonight – a blog belonging to one of our forum members – and as a former Adelaide girl I found the ad pretty funny myself.

Also on TV Tonight, the great news that season two of Dexter will appear on Showcase quite soon after the finale for season one.

Dexter currently airs at 8:30pm on Thursdays on Showcase. We also have a thread in the Aussie Bloggers forums about the show.

I don’t think “Six Feet Under” was popular just because Rachel Griffiths was in it. Some people might have started watching it for that reason, but it was a really GOOD show. I’m STILL irritated with the way the network mucked with the air times during the last season and then put the series finale on at a RIDICULOUS time of night…

I agree that it was an excellent show – I should have said that many people may have started watching it for that reason and became fans of the show after finding that it was a great show. I remember they really promoted her in it a fair bit for the first couple of years.

But I absolutely agree with you that Channel “Nein” (as I like to call them) are utterly disrespectful to many of the tv shows they air. The West Wing and The Sopranos also got similar treatment. I gave up watching all three long ago and opted to buy them on DVD instead. Six Feet Under will be the next series I am going to purchase actually. ;) However I have been catching a few of the episodes on Arena lately – via Austar (Foxtel if you’re in a capital city).

If you were a fan of Six Feet Under and in particular Michael C Hall you will love Dexter – one of the reasons I like it so much is you can tell Michael is having a lot of fun with it.
